Beta · Core for pickleball

The kitchen is where matches are decided.

Core is bringing the same match intelligence it built for squash to pickleball — singles and doubles, with the partner dynamics that actually decide doubles points.

Beta. Court, player and ball tracking work on real match video today; shot classification is still being trained.

What we're building

Built for pickleball, not adapted to it

Beta. This is what Core is being built to measure for pickleball — not a description of what ships today.

1

Serve & Return

Depth and placement on both, and how often a deep return buys the time to take the kitchen line.
2

Third Shot

Drop or drive, how often each is chosen, and which one actually gets your team to the net against this opponent.
3

Kitchen & Dinking

Time held at the non-volley line, dink exchange length, and which cross-court or middle patterns break down first.
4

Speedups & Resets

Who attacks out of a dink rally, from where, and how reliably the other team resets it back into the kitchen.
5

Transition Zone

The journey from baseline to net — how long it takes, how many balls are played from mid-court, and where teams get stuck.
6

Partner Chemistry

Doubles only: middle-ball ownership, stacking, whether you move as a unit, and which partner opponents keep going after.

For players

Your game, and your partnership.

Singles or doubles. Core is being built to read your serve and return, your third shot and your time at the kitchen line — and in doubles, how you and your partner move as a unit and who opponents choose to target.

For coaches

Every student, every pairing.

The same read, for the players you coach. Review a student's match or a doubles team's, in pickleball's own vocabulary, and take what it shows into the next drill session. In beta, alongside the player side.

Formats

Singles and Doubles

Core asks which format a match is before it analyses it — the questions worth answering are different.

  • Singles1 per side

  • Doubles2 per side

Adds partner positioning, court coverage and who opponents choose to target.

The court

Measured on the real court

Every distance, speed and position in a Core report is measured on the real court, not in pixels.

Regulation court

0 × 0 ft

One open court with a seven-foot non-volley zone either side of the net, which is what makes position, not power, the deciding factor.

Vocabulary

Reported in your language

Core writes back in the words pickleball players already use.

Kitchen (NVZ)
The seven-foot non-volley zone either side of the net.
Dink
A soft shot dropped into the opponent's kitchen.
Third shot drop
The serving team's third ball, dropped to buy time to reach the net.
Speedup
Attacking a dink rally by driving the ball hard and flat.
Reset
Taking pace off a hard ball to drop it back into the kitchen.
Stacking
Lining up so each partner keeps their preferred side after the serve.
